Information

The Ater family was designed with the intention of being used for text editing and also display applications. Whether on a large poster or in a pocket book, the family can adapt to any format. An elegant family which borrows from classic serif typefaces as well as more contemporary forms. In a spirit of bringing together as many different mediums as possible with unity in the shapes. It is a variable typeface with a letter blackening approach, sometimes to the point of appearing in a display-style. The typeface plays with this ambiguity between classic and display shapes thanks to the great contrasts between the finest and darkest styles. This opens up a multitude of possibilities. From Extra light to Black, it goes to the extreme for optimal legibility in both small and large sizes. The word Ater in latin means “matte black,” a fitting name for a family that does not hesitate to fill a white page.
