Information
An Corp is a revival of the text font from the 1997 MMORPG Ultima Online. Originally drawn in low resolution, the project seeks a balance between fidelity to the source and reinterpretation, resulting in a hybrid Gothic typeface.
Each glyph was redrawn over the pixel letters to preserve their proportions and rhythm. Features like low contrast, orthogonal terminations, and slab serifs are inherited from the original, making An Corp well-suited for small sizes. The mix of Lombardic capitals and more modern lowercases lends it a distinct anachronistic charm.
Its name, An Corp—the “word of power” used for the Resurrection spell—is a fitting metaphor for this revival. Although much of the original Latin set was missing or poorly implemented, the in-game font still shows remarkable quality at its intended size (around 12px).
Following some research and a conversation with Ultima Online’s former creative director Starr Long, the early font work was likely created by Micael Priest, who passed away in 2018. An Corp pays homage to his contribution and to the timeless, immersive world of Ultima Online.
